Identity

Adulting

Being a parent really makes you grow; it’s stretches you.

No, I am not talking about the fading yet still visible marks that often remain across a new mother’s body. True, those marks do tell their own story about how a belly grows to a remarkable and unprecedented size — but what I mean, is by having a child you become an adult! Yes, even if you have already been adulting for some time now, you quickly realize that your previous level of adultness was in fact incomplete.

A New Year And A New You (Perspective Is Everything)

Fresh Start

Not many things compare to the feeling of a fresh year and a fresh start; a chance to do things over with a new plan and perspective. Learning from the previous year’s mistakes, we set milestones and lofty goals to make the year a better one.

Fresh ambition, determination and enthusiasm can barely be contained; we’re like a horse waiting to burst out of its gate at a racetrack. We decide that this is the year all our dreams will come true. We do all these things, and then confidently label them our “New Year’s Resolutions”.

The “Thing”

Then, this thing happens. You know the thing. That mysterious often unpredictable thing. That thing between waking and sleeping. What’s it called again? Oh right, LIFE.

Hold On To Your Hope

I would like to tell you a story. This story is a true story, and one I believe needs to be shared. It’s not an easy story to tell, and in fact it’s quite uncomfortable to tell it. Finding the right words has been like grasping at the wind; just when you think you’ve caught it, it slips right through your fingers.

I’ve heard it said that miracles happen every day, but we’ve just become so used to seeing them that we don’t recognize them for what they truly are anymore. I think that is very true.

This story is about a miracle; three miracles really. The first two I will tell you about soon enough. The third miracle – the smaller but still important miracle, is that I have been able to share this story with you here today.

Living It Happy – Enjoying Life!

“I’m Living life and I’m living it happy. “

This line from my song is a line that I think about most days. It’s a confession just as much as a statement really.

You see, living life happy doesn’t mean that everything has to be perfect to enjoy it. Living life happy doesn’t mean that upsetting,  wrong,  difficult, and just down right sucky circumstances won’t happen in your life. Believe it or not, happiness is actually choice. A choice to not let circumstances define (and steal!) your happiness.

Every day when we wake up, we have the choice to have a good day; no matter what. We have a choice to be in a good mood, a choice to love, a choice to forgive, a choice to do something afraid. Many times we cannot choose the things that encounter our lives, but we can choose how we react to them and how we let them effect us. We can choose to live life happy.

5 Great Gift Ideas For Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner! If you have been struggling to find the perfect gift for your mother this year, or are a chronic last minute planner, I may be able to help 🙂

A Little Story First

This year will actually be my first Mother’s day being the mum! Oddly, the thought didn’t even cross my mind until I was talking with my own mum about her Mother’s Day celebration. She will be away for the actual day this year, so I celebrated with her a few days ago instead.

She reminded me that from this year on, Mother’s Day will always carry a duel meaning for me now.

New Website, And A New Writing Adventure!

It’s time for another adventure, and along with it, comes this brand new site!

As some of you know, I’ve had a website on khaili.com going all the way back to 2003. This site, much like fashion trends, has had many styles and looks over the years. Some were great, and others were, well – let’s just say that like the expression “YOLO” they weren’t destined to stay around for that long!

Welcome To Motherhood

Our sweet little Willow has arrived, and so has motherhood! It’s only been six week so far (at the date of writing this), and our exciting journey together has just begun. Already however, I have learned so much from our sweet baby girl.

She had a bit of a bumpy road to begin with– a good number of hospital stays, nurse proddings, and more blood tests than some people have in a lifetime, but now that’s all behind us and we’re home sweet home!

Willow starts each day with smiles and gurgles on her changing mat where she has learned to pull mummy’s hair. Her neck muscles are rapidly strengthening and growing now, as is her desire to look around at her new colourful world.

Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed | The Story Behind The Song

I vividly remember the day Tim wrote Overwhelmed. Well, the night really.

Like many times before, it was late at night (about 1 am) and then all of a sudden Tim’s creative juices began to flow. He picked up his guitar, and locked himself in our then small apartment studio.

I had been at auditions all day and was exhausted, so I flopped over onto the bed and listened to the distant soft strum of his fingers on the strings as I drifted off to sleep.

Then, after drifting off for an unknown period of time, I was gently woken by a small whisper in my ear, while being tugged close into my husbands arms: “I wrote you a song”.

Kwirky Cooking Blog: Beyond The Kitchen

Kwirky Cooking Blog: Beyond The Kitchen

I have always loved to create things – and one great outlet of that creativity (being completely aware of how stereotypical this sounds) has always been found in my kitchen.

When I was very young I used to be obsessed with making “potions” out of bath products and “cooking” mud pies! Thankfully, my cooking skills have graduated beyond mud pies and it has become a great passion and pass time in my life.

Mr.Noodle Anyone?

My food blog and recipe site Kwirky Cooking really began as a personal mission. Tim and I went through a stage (a rather long stage) of having hardly any money for groceries (or much else, really!). When I say hardly, I mean we had times of living off of Mr. Noodle for weeks on end. That or Kraft dinner because hey, Food Basics (Canada) had it on sale for 88 cents a box after all!

Regardless of how few ingredients and food items we had in our kitchen however, and regardless of the little money we had, I always did my very best to have something delicious ready for Tim after a hard days (or nights) work in the plastics factory. Something that would make him say “whoa, how did you do that with what we have?!”

So began my Kwirky Cooking adventure, and yes, I am aware that quirky is usually spelled with a Qu  not a Kw. 🙂
